We each have two copies of AVPR1a and may have one ruthlessness gene and one altruistic.

AVPR1a was named one of the Top Ten Human Genes at Ideonexus.com!

If you're getting the Hereditary Hemochromatosis Test (which everyone should do), we can include the "Ruthlessness Gene" Test at a substantial discount!

*Allele 334 of the "ruthlessness" or "bonding" gene has been directly linked to marital difficulties.

Genesis Biolabs also currently offers the following genetic tests:
Leprosy Susceptibility Test - Variants in PARK2 and PACRG region are suspected leprosy risk factors.

Premarital genetic screening usually includes tests for rare genetic disorders.
Genesis Biolabs offers the first genetic screen for marital success!*

Screening for AVPR1a, known alternately as the "ruthlessness" gene or the "bonding" gene, is likely an indicator of marital happiness. Marriages born out of mutual respect and mutual interest rather than self-interest are much more likely to succeed and probably less likely to end in divorce. Is your fiancé just after your money? Those with the "ruthlessness" gene may very well be. Those with the altruistic version of AVPR1a probably aren't. Ruthless people will lie, cheat and steal to get what they want. Genetics may not be a guaranteed indicator of human behavior and motivation [genetics is only one half of the nature vs. nurture debate] but genes don't lie. Before you make a lifetime commitment, have your fiancé tested.

You will receive 1 mouth swab and collection tube per test, in a return package, along with specific instructions on how to collect the samples. Ask your fiancée, significant other, business partner and/or elected representative to get these genetic tests done as soon as possible. This is for informational purposes only and is not a medical diagnosis. Consult with your doctor.

Researchers theorized that the AVPR1a linked to pro-social and anti-social behavior in prairie voles might be a factor in human behavior. They discovered that certain genotypes in the promoter region of the AVPR1a gene corresponded with "Benevolent behavior" and "Universalistic behavior" on various personality tests and that those same genotypes corresponded to altruistic behavior in a game they called "the dictator game". These results were published in the journal Genes, Brain and Behavior. NatureNews subsequently published an article referring to this gene as the "Ruthlessness Gene"! The original authors might have preferred to call it the altruistic gene, the benevolent gene or the universalistic gene. A Google search for the ruthlessness gene leads right to AVPR1a, while a search for these other possible names does not. The Proceedings of the National Academy of Science published a paper showing a strong link between human marital difficulties and allele 334 of AVPR1a region RS3. The National Institute of Health then published an article naming AVPR1a the "Bonding" gene.

Here at Genesis Biolabs, we don't believe the nature vs. nurture debate has been resolved in favor of nature. We are a product not just of our genetics, but of our experiences and our choices. However, one can conceal or misrepresent ones choices and motives, but genetics do not lie. There are numerous situations where knowing if someone has the ruthless or altruistic version of AVPR1a might be useful. Before getting married, or making a business partnership, this genetic test might be appropriate. All of our politicians should probably submit to this test. As of May, 2008, with the passage of H.R. 493, The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008, it is illegal in the United States to use genetic testing in hiring or issuing insurance policies.
